This Spring (2025), I went to Olympic Training Center in Beijing to learn from Olympic Gold Medalists’ coaches, trainers and therapists.

The training facility is converted from a locomotive factory to prepare Olympic athletes for the 2022 Winter Game in Beijing. It is currently managed by Beijing Sport University for educational programs open to the public. Because Beijing Sport University is responsible for training China’s Olympic Team, the instructors at the program are the most authoritative experts in China who have trained, coached and treated the world-class athletes, many of which are Olympic Gold Medalists.

We had both classroom learning and practice, covering topics like Sports Programming, Injury Prevention, Functional Training, Plyometric Training, Sports Performance and Conditioning, Athletic Injury Therapies, etc

The classes are very intense and the schedules is incredibly packed. We starts at 8 am and often ends at 10 pm. People in China are very used to this kind of working intensity. I find their enthusiasm inspiring. Seeing people dedicated to their crafts is always awesome.

It’s a great experience learning from the top experts in each field. Their wealth of knowledge offer many perspectives to health and wellness. I gained many insights from their sharing of their experiences. Knowing that my personal clinical practices match cutting-edge scientific researches and practices at the apex of sports medicine is very reassuring. One of the instructor remarked that most doctors spend their whole career never knowing how to reach peak human performance. This remark made a big impact on me. Our medical training are dominated by sickness and illness. Often we forget the pursuit of excellence and the joy of high performance.
