一個中醫師為什麼要去北京學運動醫學?

四月我去了北京體育大學的奧運訓練中心參加了運動表現的學習營。很多人覺得很奇怪,為什麼一個中醫醫生要去學運動醫學。

在訓練營的時候有一位老師講出了我心理的話,他說:「很多醫生終其一生,不知道人體的最高表現,只知道普通人的生理學和病床上病人的病理學,而不知道一個高表現的人的生理學。」這讓我聯想到孔子所說的:「未知生,焉知死?」

很多醫生,尤其是西醫,只注重對病人的修修補補,而從來不思考什麼是人的終極生活方式、如何開發人的全部潛能。 而受中國傳統文化中天人合一的思想,中醫學反而對人的潛能開發有濃厚的興趣。在傳統中醫典籍《黃帝內經》中的〈上古天真論〉就把人的定位設立的很高,說古代得道之人可分成真人、至人、聖人、賢人;認為普通的人,只要依據聖人的教導,順應天道就可以健康長壽。原文是:“上古之人,其知道者,法於陰陽,和於術數,食飲有節,起居有常,不妄作勞,故能形與神俱,而盡終其天年”

這些預防醫學和養生的思想在今日不但得到很多現代科學的佐證,而且仍有很高的指導價值。現在美國流行的FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE (功能醫學)就時不時引用中醫古籍裡的思想。但是主流醫學仍然不重視這些養生思想,很少醫生會用這些思想為病人治病。相反的在運動醫學裡,因為注重個體的表現,反而和中醫學不謀而合。比如說為了提高運動表現,需要強調訓練和修復,這就類似於中醫養生學裡的“常欲小勞但莫大疲”,還有注重circadian rhythm (晝夜節律)就符合中醫裡“”陽時養陽,陰時養陰”的道理。

學習了運動醫學後,得到了另一種角度對健康的看法,也學習了現代醫學的數據和理念,常常發現和傳統中醫的契合。我在灣區做中醫。服務的病人都是高科技公司的精英人群,他們對自己的要求很高,不只在工作專業上,而是方方面面都要求很高。融合了中西醫學和運動醫學的理論和技巧才能更周全地照顧到我的病人。
